Career Spotlight: Craig Lewis, Massage Therapist

A little over a month ago, I celebrated a birthday.

And, when my family asked me what I wanted, my response was, a massage!

I’ll let you in on a little secret– my family, is filled of copy cat’s. Not always, but let’s just say, there’s no shame in their game when it come’s to hoarding in on someone else’s birthday.

Now that we decided on where to get OUR massages, the call was made to schedule an appointment.  When the receptionist asked would you prefer a male or female? Although, it would have been a first for me having a male work on my body, my answer was–I really didn’t care one way or the other, I just wanted the luxury of relaxing and rejuvenating in the comfort of a spa.  My daughter, on the other-hand, clearly stated her preference for a female.

Apparently, most people prefer female therapists because of the level of intimacy with a stranger.

So, after arriving at the spa in Loews Coronado Bay, the two of us were instructed to follow our respective therapist to our warm and inviting private rooms.

As I lay face down on the massage table, anxiously awaiting my 60 minute Swedish massage, in walks my therapist.  Before we get started we have a chat session and I must say that, his calm and soothing prevalent Jamaican, accent nearly puts me to sleep before he gets started. He begins his technique with strong but gentle hands, using long smooth strokes, kneading, and circular movements along my shoulders. I could instantly feel the stress evaporate from my body.spa-9-1

Ahhh! Heavenly doesn’t begin to describe the sensational feeling of  the massage therapists’ healing hands.  I could go on and on and on…

Now that is the inspiration behind “The Chocolate Voice’s career spotlight, massage therapist, Craig Lewis.

Originally from the Island of Jamaica, Craig Lewis has been living the American Dream for the last seven years, establishing a successful career and finding his true passion. Oddly enough, Lewis found the idea for his dream career, massage therapy, online.

This determined 27-year old graduated from Marinello School of Beauty, and has gone on to work for the esteemed Loews Coronado Bay Resort & Spa, and to start his own massage business on the side.

Therapy is unique for each client, who all have different needs.” Says Lewis.

What sets him apart is that, he’s constantly innovating his craft, listening to his clients and molding the session to meet their need.

Lewis also has experience receiving massages. When he was working for a hurricane shutter company in Jamaica, his legs were caught underneath a shutter, causing serious and lasting pain. Coincidentally, the career he later found online led him to the cure for his pain when his fellow classmates practiced on him, curing his injury. Lewis has complete credibility when he describes massage therapy as, “…not just a luxury.”

Even medical doctors and business leaders can attest to the benefits of massage therapy, Lewis’ services in particular. The amazing massage therapist has regular clients who are medical doctors, and his side business specializes in doing office calls to businesses.

Craig Lewis’ expertise goes far beyond oils and relaxing music. He is a healer who creates a relaxing environment for alleviating his clients’ aches and pains.
