San Diego County Board of Supervisors Votes Yes on Southeastern Live Well Center

(San Diego, CA) On June 19, local residents of showed up at the San Diego County Board of Supervisors meeting to publicly raise their voices in support of building a new Live Well Center on 4.06 acres of land in Southeastern San Diego.

And because the community made up of those who live, work, worship, volunteer, and those with generational ties came out in full force to show support for expanding health and wellness services in their community, their voices were heard resulting in a unanimous yes vote.

According to long time resident and community advocate Philip Liburd,

“For almost fifty years the residents of beautiful Southeast San Diego and adjacent communities have had to access Health and Human Services, including assistance for nutrition and financial payments, in a building that was not designed to provide a comfortable atmosphere. So, as we move forward, it is noteworthy, that we thank each and every one of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, who specifically implored the county administrators and staffers, to incorporate community input, into every phase of the building process.”

This vote was to authorize San Diego County Administrators to proceed with the purchase and the land from Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation, located across from the Malcolm X Library .

The proposed Southeastern Live Well Center will be part of a well-lit campus and will include an approximately 80,000 square-foot facility, a parking structure, and 24/7 security. Proposed services at the Southeastern Live Well Center would include, but not be limited to, a Family Resource Center, Child Welfare Services, Public Health Nursing, Behavioral Health Services, Probation Services, and a conference center.

The appraised value of the land is $1,677,000. The total project cost of the Southeastern Live Well Center project is currently estimated to be $74 million
