The Desert Ques take honors at Omega’s 75th Annual 12th District Virtual Meeting

Phoenix’s local grad chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. took top honors in a number of areas during its 75^th annual 12^th District Meeting.  The annual meeting was initially supposed to be held Memorial Day weekend in Anaheim, CA but was shifted to a virtual format due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The 12^th District of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. is comprised of the 10 most western states, including Alaska.  The District conducts its annual meeting to elect its officers, recognize citizens and Brothers for their contributions to the community, and to perform various community outreach projects during the meeting. 

As part of the recognition, Phi Iota Chapter received the District Representative’s 12th District Net Growth Award, they also nominated Mrs. Janelle Wood, founder of Black Mothers Forum, who won the 12th District Citizen of the Year Award.  In addition, a number of  “Desert Ques” won individual awards during the meeting.  Lawton Connelly was awarded the Superior Service Award, Andrew Davis was awarded the Founders’ Lifetime Achievement Award, Carl Blunt was awarded the 12th District Graduate Omega Man of the Year, and Marcus Delgado was awarded a Graduate scholarship award.  

One of the most notable recognitions for the Desert Ques was the highly contested election in which Andrew “Herc” Davis was elected to the office of 1^st Vice District Representative (Vice President).  Davis, who has served two terms as the Basileus (President) of the Phoenix Graduate Chapter and was the current Mountain West Area Representative overseeing the states of AZ, NV, UT, ID, WY will now take on the role as second in command in the 12^th District serving under the newly elected 34^th 12^th District Representative, Kwame Dow from Los Angeles, CA.  

Lourenco A. Lopes Jr. M.A., M.S., J.D., current Basileus (President) of Phi Iota, states that in spite of the physical meeting being cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic it was great that the Brotherhood could still assemble virtually and carry out the business of Omega.  It is important that we take time to recognize community leaders and Brothers in Omega for their outstanding contributions to the Fraternity and the community.
