2026 Oscar Nominations: ‘Sinners’ Shattered Records with 16 Nominations

The 2026 Oscar nominations are officially in, and this year’s list powerfully highlights Black excellence across film. Black actors and creatives earned standout recognition, led by Sinners, Ryan Coogler’s genre-bending horror film, which shattered records with an impressive 16 nominations.

The film landed nominations in every major category, including Best Picture, Best Director (Coogler), Best Actor (Michael B. Jordan), Best Supporting Actor (Delroy Lindo), Best Supporting Actress (Wunmi Mosaku), and Best Original Screenplay. Sinners also dominated across multiple technical categories, underscoring its impact both creatively and cinematically. This is veteran actor Lindo’s first Oscar Nomination.

Golden Globe winner Teyana Taylor earned her first-ever Oscar nomination for her role in One Battle After Another, marking another milestone moment in an already celebrated year.

Nominees were selected by voting members across the Academy’s 19 branches, with each branch voting within its respective discipline—actors nominate actors, costume designers nominate costume designers, and so on. In categories such as Animated Feature Film, Animated Short Film, International Feature Film, and Live Action Short Film, nominees are chosen by members from all branches who opt in and meet eligibility requirements. All active Academy members are eligible to vote for Best Picture nominees.

This year, nomination ballots were submitted by Academy members representing 88 countries.

The 98th Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at the Dolby® Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. The ceremony will be broadcast live on ABC, streamed on Hulu, and aired in more than 200 territories worldwide.
