Tony and Grammy Award-Winning Musical Comes to the San Diego Civic Theatre August 11–16
SAN DIEGO, CA — Broadway San Diego is bringing the Tony and Grammy Award-winning musical HELL’S KITCHEN to the San Diego Civic Theatre August 11–16.
Inspired by the life and music of 17-time Grammy Award winner Alicia Keys, HELL’S KITCHEN tells the coming-of-age story of Ali, a spirited 17-year-old searching for freedom, passion and her place in the world. Set in New York City, the musical explores family, friendship, self-discovery and the neighborhood that helps shape Ali’s journey.
With music and lyrics by Alicia Keys and a book by Pulitzer Prize finalist Kristoffer Diaz, HELL’S KITCHEN is directed by Tony Award nominee Michael Greif (Rent, Dear Evan Hansen, The Notebook) and features choreography by Tony Award nominee Camille A. Brown.
The North American tour stars Maya Drake as Ali, Kennedy Caughell as Jersey, Roz White as Miss Liza Jane, Desmond Sean Ellington as Davis, and JonAvery Worrell as Knuck, along with a talented ensemble cast.
Audiences can expect Alicia Keys’ greatest hits alongside new songs written specifically for the musical, brought to life through dynamic choreography and powerhouse vocals.
The production has received widespread critical acclaim, with The New York Times calling it a “Critic’s Pick” and describing HELL’S KITCHEN as “thrilling from beginning to end” and “a rare must-see.” The musical won two 2025 Tony Awards and the 2025 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.
Now in its second year on Broadway, HELL’S KITCHEN continues to captivate audiences with its celebration of dreams, identity, family and finding your own voice.
