You may have heard the news, but writer, producer and director Ava DuVernay has teamed up with Oprah Winfrey, OWN, and an all female production team to create the series Queen Sugar. Well, the extended trailer is here and it’s even better than the first!
Inspired by Natalie Baszile’s novel of the same title, Dawn-Lyen Gardner will play the show’s main character, Charley Bordelon. Rutina Wesley, who is best known for her role as Tara on True Blood will be playing Nova Bordelon.
The book focuses on Charley, a woman who is fairly well off and lives in Los Angeles until her father passes away and she is forced to move to Louisiana with her child. The series will follow the relationship of the estranged sisters, and their ability to make amends as the family comes together to run a sugarcane farm in Louisiana.
