Black Panther, BlackKkKlansman and Greenbook Receive best motion picture of the year noms

Michael B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger, and Chadwick Boseman as King T’Challa star in “Black Panther,” first super hero movie ever nominated for Best Picture. The film received seven nominations including Best Picture.

Actor-comedian and Oscar®-nominated writer Kumail Nanjiani and actress- producer-director Tracee Ellis Ross announced the 91st Oscars® nominations today (January 22), live from the Academy’s headquarters in Beverly Hills via a global live stream on Oscar.com.

Black Panther, BlackKkKlansman and Greenbook all receive best motion picture of the year noms. Also receiving best picture nominations are Bohemian Rhapsody, The Favourite, Roma, A Star Is Born and Vice.

This year is Spike Lee’s first Oscar nomination for achievement in directing and Regina King’s first for Best Supporting Actress for her role in If Beale Street Could Talk.

In total Black Panther, a Marvel Studios Production (Walt Disney), received seven nominations: Costume design, Original score,
Original song – “All The Stars” Best picture, Production design, Sound editing and Sound mixing. Although the mega hit featuring a predominately Black cast nabbed a history-making nomination for best picture, Wakanda’s charismatic king T’Challa portrayed brilliantly by Chadwick Boseman did not receive a best actor nomination. Nor did his nemesis, Erik Killmonger, played fiercely by Michael B. Jordan.

Talented director Ryan Coogler also missed out on a nomination.

BlacKkKlansman, a QC Entertainment/Blumhouse Productions/Monkeypaw Productions/40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks Production (Focus Features) received six nominations: Adam Driver – Performance by an actor in a supporting role, Directing, Spike Lee, Film editing, Original score, Best picture and Adapted screenplay.

“Green Book,” a Charles B. Wessler/Innisfree Pictures/Participant Media/DreamWorks Pictures Production (Universal) received five nominations: Viggo Mortensen – Performance by an actor in a leading role, Mahershala Ali – Performance by an actor in a supporting role, Film editing Best picture and Original screenplay.

The 91st Oscars will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2019, at the Dolby Theatre® at Hollywood & Highland Center®in Hollywood, and will be televised live on the ABC Television Network. The Oscars also will be televised live in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.
