Black Women Named Interim COO of Naval Medical Center San Diego

On April 9, 2021, Captain Kelly O. Elmore MC, USN and board certified OBGYN made history by becoming the first African-American female, interim Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Naval Medical Center San Diego.

NMCSD is the flagship of Military Medicine, a large hospital, that provides healthcare services to more than 1/2 million beneficiaries (with a budget to match) who live in San Diego County and all over the nation, and the world. This is an unprecedented opportunity as she will be the first African-American female, in the 103 year history of the hospital to assume this position.

Dr. Elmore says she is grateful to her leadership for their trust and confidence; her family, friends, mentors, staff and colleagues for their support and advocacy during her 20+ year Naval career.

Dr. Elmore is a member of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc.

Congratulations Dr. Elmore!
