#BlackGirlMagic: 4 major pageant titles are held by black women

And now, in a historic first, the crowns for four major pageants are worn by black women.

Zozibini Tunzi, the newly crowned Miss Universe, joins Miss America Nia Franklin, Miss USA Cheslie Kryst and Miss Teen USA Kaliegh Garris in making history. Earlier this year, Franklin, Kryst and Garris made history together as the first three black women to wear those crowns at the same time.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama commented on an Essence Magazine tweet #BlackGirlMagic.

On Good Morning America this morning, Michael Strahan asked Tunzi the question: “What does it feel like to be apart of a group of women where all 4 major pageant titles are held by black women?”

“It feels fantastic! You know, we come from such a a racially divided world, and so for us to be moving  forward in unity and together, to say look  these are women who have been great and are celebrated in the past, and now finally people are starting to see the greatness that is within us.  And, I’m so happy to be apart of this trio because, I’ve been following them for a while and it’s such a beautiful thing to watch.”
