Burna Boy Covers Funeral Costs for Children Killed in Stockton Mass Shooting

International artist Burna Boy has privately stepped in to cover the funeral expenses for all four young victims, after hearing the story on The Breakfast Club and learning about the families affected.

Burna Boy was deeply moved by what happened, particularly the story of Amari, a 3.8 GPA student-athlete whose life was cut short. He reached out through industry contacts to offer immediate support so families wouldn’t face the financial burden while dealing with unimaginable grief.

Burna Boy’s Statement:

“When I heard about the children murdered in Stockton, my heart broke. After hearing the story on The Breakfast Club, I reached out to Wack 100 and connected with Jason Lee because no family should ever face this kind of pain alone. I wanted to do whatever I could to support these parents as they begin the long process of healing.”

The deadly shooting happened at a 2-year-old’s birthday party at Monkey Space Banquet Hall in North Stockton.

The aftermath of the shooting left an 8, 9, 14 and 21-year-old dead. Eleven other attendees of the party were injured by gunfire.

Burna Boy’s contribution will fully cover the funeral costs for the young victims, relieving families of this burden. Vice Mayor Jason Lee, who has been meeting privately with the victims’ families, expressed gratitude for the support, noting that “Burna Boy’s generosity is an example of how people around the world want to help, even when they’ve never met the families impacted.”

Burna Boy, whose real name is Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, is a Nigerian artist known for Afrobeats.

In réponse to Burna Boy’s offer, Lee said, “I want to thank Burna Boy for his support of families and children he has never met but still felt moved to help. Let his generosity serve as an example: so many people want to help but may not know how, and our community needs that support now more than ever.”
