Misty Copeland is the first female African American principal dancer in the American Ballet Theatre and we are so excited about the Barbie Doll that was created to look exactly like her.
The beautiful barbie debuted on Monday — with realistic proportions, including athletic calves and a larger frame.
The doll is part of Barbie’s “Sheroes” program, which focuses on female heroes and role models who have broken boundaries. Copland made history last year when she became the first African American female principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre — a win on so many levels. The doll retails for $29.95 and sports a bold red bodysuit, colorful tulle headpiece and ballet shoes.
We’re so glad that our little chocolate girls will now have another role model, and a barbie that looks like them, to play with.
