Jhene Aiko is a singer-songwriter from Los Angeles, California. She began her career as a teenager, contributing vocals for the R&B group B2K in the early 2000’s. Her most recent EP (Extended Play) is called “Sail Out,” which is a play on words from the idiom to “sell out.” Aiko’s voice is very gentle, but her lyrics are far from fragile. Her smooth melodic way of singing masks different topics such as love, heartbreak, drug use, and reflections on past experiences. Her vocal range changes as she channels each individual emotion.  The production harmonizes with her vocals on each of the seven tracks and conveys a smooth and mellow fluidity. Her next studio album “Souled Out” is set to be released in 2014.
