Oprah’s The Life You Want Weekend tour,” a retreat style event that was held in Houston on October 16-17 at the Toyota Center, was one amazing, unforgettable, inspirational experience.
The eight city life changing tour is the ultimate week-end master class with Oprah along with her inspirational team of experts–Deepak Chopra, Elizabeth Gilbert, Rob Bell and Iyanla Vanzant, all of whom share their valuable insight and experiences on how to life your best life.
Highlights of the event include O-Town a pop up 360-degree activity hub with sponsor booths, lounges and, music where fans who were made up of mostly women, come together to engage, learn and get inspired through the media moguls presence, which was felt everywhere. Panels of beautifully framed photo’s and memorabilia of the mogul was showcased of her and friends of the show throughout the years. Fans had an opportunity to stand in line for a photo which included a personalized O magazine cover with Oprah. Oprah’s best friend, CBS Anchor Gayle King was also on hand to take photo’s with fans. Creative director of O, The Magazine, Adam Glassman, was also under the tent to meet and greet while giving style tips and answering questions.
On Friday evening which was reminiscent of a dance party, featuring the sounds of DJ Kiss, who mixed the hottest jams while guests rocked out on the floor and, in their seats. Fans checked into the arena were all sporting customized plastic O wrist bands, that magically lit up, changing colors at times right before Oprah hit the stage creating a light show.
Oprah, enters the stage to a standing ovation wearing an elegant yellow gown, and proceeded to share her life lessons of patience and resilience and the importance in listening to the messages that are sent through the universe.
She explained to the audience. “To have the life you want, you have to chose love,” she said.
The two-day event continued on Saturday, with meditation and talks with Deepak Chopra, Elizabeth Gilbert (author of “Eat Pray Love”), Pastor, Rob Bell and Iyanla Vanzant (author and Talk show host of OWN’s Iyanla Fix My Life.)
After a healthy lunch from Panera Bread, guests were energized with a fitness work out by instructor, Angela Davis of SoulCycle.
One of the weekend’s speakers, Amy Purdy, the 2014 Paralympic bronze medalist snow boarder and “Dancing With The Stars” finalist, said, “Being onstage with Oprah, I’m living my dream.”
On Saturday, Purdy joined Winfrey to present the Toyota Standing O-vation Award with a $25,000 prize to Yamile Jackson, a Houston mother and industrial engineer who created Zaky, a hand-shaped device for babies undergoing hospital care that simulates the touch and scent of parents.
It’s named for her son Zachary, now 13, who was born prematurely. Her company, Nurture by Design, sells Zakys to more than 350 hospitals in 50 countries and she donates thousands each year.
Oprah’s The Life You Want Week-end 2014 tour continues in Miami on October 24-25.
