WN: Oprah Winfrey Network announced today that Richard Roundtree (“Shaft,” “Family Reunion”) and Terri J. Vaughn (“Insecure,” “The Steve Harvey Show”) have joined the cast of the second season of the romantic anthology drama “Cherish the Day,” from Emmy®-winning and Academy Award®–nominated creator Ava DuVernay, ARRAY Filmworks, and Warner Bros. Television. Roundtree and Vaughn are set for recurring roles. Additionally, Sheldon Candis (“Luv”), Angel Kristi Williams (“Really Love”), and Merawi Gerima (“Residue”) will direct episodes this season. Richard Roundtree is set to recur as Mandeville “MV” St. James, a proud, loving, wry-humored former judge and widowed father of Sunday (series star Joy Bryant). Terri J. Vaughn will recur as Anastasia, Ellis’ (series star Henry Simmons) soon-to-be ex-wife and the mother of their children.
“Cherish the Day” is an anthology series that chronicles the relationship of one couple, with each episode spanning a single day. In season two, the rekindling of a romance is told — the love story of Ellis Moran (Henry Simmons) and Sunday St. James (Joy Bryant), who fell in love in high school but find themselves reunited in beautiful New Orleans. Ellis is a former basketball player who is now a single father of two, and Sunday is a vegetarian celebrity chef on the cusp of fame. Each episode of the season-long narrative unfolds in a single day to reveal significant moments in a relationship that compel us to hold true to the ones we love, from the extraordinary to the everyday.
