Could day two of the inaugural San Diego Smooth Jazz Festival have gotten any better? Well, not quite inaugural, it’s back after a 12-year hiatus. And, no it couldn’t get any better. At least we don’t think so.
Sunday’s stellar line-up starting with the two younger, up and coming phenomenal smooth jazz artists, Curtis Brooks and Eric Darius, both sax players, to the more seasoned Gerald Albright, and singer-songwriter, guitarist, South African Jonathan Butler, West Coast Jam featuring, Rick Braun, Richard Elliot, Norman Brown, and Boney James, these cats came to play! And, the crowd loved every minute of it.
Darius, Albright and Butler, and Boney James in particular who closed out the show, were all excellent in making sure to engage the entire crowd, from the VIP section, to those sitting in rows and rows in the grassy area towards the back. The artists serenaded the crowd with original material and cover tunes that had everybody up, and out of their seats moving to the beat. That said, rock solid performances by all musicians on both nights had social media buzzing. Below are just a few quotes:
“Two great days. Already looking forward to next year.”
“An amazing show on both days with great artists, We had so much fun!! Will be back next time for sure.”
“Perfect venue in a beautiful city. Excellent performances on both days. The VIP section was off the hook. The food, the people, the service…can’t wait for next year!”
The San Diego Smooth Jazz festival is presented by Rainbow Promotions and Payne Pest Management.
