Project Runway: All-Star’s Korto Momolu Brings FashionTeenth to San Diego, Juneteenth

In celebration of Juneteenth, on June 15, 2024,  fashion designer and runner-up of Project Runway, Korto Momolu (pronounced Cut Toe – Mo • Mo • Lu), will showcase her vibrant, eye popping designs, as models strut her designs down the runway, at FashionTeenth, an epic event in San Diego, that you won’t want to miss!

FashionTeenth will take place Saturday, at the  Liberty Station Convention Center, located at 2600 Landing Road.

Some may recognize the fashionista on the popular competition series as a fan favorite on Season 5, as the perky 1st place runner up, and on the spinoff, Project Runway All-stars on season 20.

Inspired by the essence of her rich melanin heritage and African roots, the Liberian-born fashion designer/stylist has emerged into becoming one of the most sought after global brands in the fashion industry.

Korto’s popularity, evident through her talents and recognition both on and off the show, garnered significant attention. So much so that at this year’s 2024 Grammy Awards, she was presented with an opportunity to style Jacky Clark-Chisholm, a two-time Grammy winner and member of the award-winning Gospel group, the Clark Sisters.

Furthermore, she was also approached with styling actress Ashly Atkinson, known for her role in “The Gilded Age” on HBO, for the 2024 Screen Actors Guild Award.

What sets this styling achievement apart is Korto’s ability to create designs specifically catering to full-figured women. Notably, both Korto and Ashly hail from Little Rock, adding an extra layer of significance to their collaboration.

But let’s rewind a bit. How did this fashion powerhouse come to be? Well, it all started when Korto was just a teen living in Canada. Fashion found her, and the rest is history. After honing her skills at L’Academies des Couturiers Design Institute, followed by a move to Little Rock, Arkansas, is what ultimately led to her auditioning for Project Runway.

But wait, there’s more! Korto’s not just about slaying the runway; she’s also all about giving back. Teaming up with JoAnn’s, she’s spreading the love one dress at a time, hooking up lucky high school seniors in Little Rock with dream prom dresses. Now that’s what we call fashion with heart!
