San Diego: Jazz At The Creek Returns Labor Day Week-End with Patrice Rushen and Ronnie Laws & Friends

A two-day, Labor Day week-end at San Diego’s premiere live music venue Jazz at the Creek, located at Market Creek Amphitheater returns to in-person starting on September 4, 2021, featuring Patrice Rushen and friends—Rayford Griffin, Paul Jackson Jr., Michael Paulo, Freddie Washington, Lamont Dozier Jr., Kendrick Dial & Lyrical Groove.

For those of us who have followed Rushen’s (pronounced ra-SHONN) career over the years,  the  multi-talented woman nicknamed “Baby Fingers” due to her small hands and ability to capture all 88 keys with a certain brilliance and power, is a Grammy-Award nominated singer, composer producer multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and music director. Her 1982 single “Forget Me Nots” received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.

On September 5, the music continues with another jazz great saxophone player Ronnie Laws. He started off by performing with South African trumpeter Hugh Masekela. In 1972, Laws joined the band Earth, Wind & Fire, where he played  saxophone and flute. After 18 months working with Earth, Wind and Fire, he decided to become a solo artist.

Also performing are—David P. Stevens, Lin Roundtree, Marqueal Jordan, Laval Belle and Friends.

Concerts will take place at 310 Euclid Avenue in San Diego. Ticket prices are $50.00 per concert when purchased in advance and $60.00 at the door. For more information on ticket prices visit JazzAtTheCreek
