After 16 incredible years as Scatena Daniels, the award-winning San Diego-based PR agency has a new name, Scatena Media Group, with expanded capabilities and a broader vision to serve educational institutions, mission-driven businesses, and community-based organizations across Southern California.
“Over the years, we’ve evolved from a public relations firm to a fully integrated communications agency,” says Denise Scatena, CEO, Scatena Media Group. “The audiences our clients need to connect with are more fragmented than ever, and we need to reach them where they consume information. It’s important to provide an integrated communications lens on the strategy and services we deliver to our clients. Our new name and identity reflect this evolution and position us for future expansion.” Scatena became the firm’s sole owner in 2025.
New Name, Excellent Service Continues
Since last summer, the agency has experienced significant growth, driven by new services, industry expansion, additional team members, and elevated operational efficiencies. The Scatena name has long been synonymous with media relations in San Diego and Southern California; however, Scatena Media Group now offers a full suite of integrated communications and marketing services to support their clients with intentional approaches to attract attention, build credibility, and inspire action.
Today, services provided by Scatena Media Group (formerly Scatena Daniels) include:
- Strategic Communications and Planning
- Media Relations and Spokesperson Training
- Content Strategy and Creation
- Digital Branding and Creative Services
- Crisis Communications and Reputation Management
- Leadership and Advisory Support
- Fractional CMO and CCO Services
A Growing Team to Meet New Needs
To support the expansion of services, Scatena Media Group recently hired April Tellez Green, APR, as the agency’s director of integrated communications. Leveraging more than two decades of strategic comms experience for mission-driven organizations, April will lead the development and execution of Scatena Media Group’s new service verticals, including content creation, media buying, branding, and more. She joins Ann Marie Price, director of public relations, as one of the company’s two directors. The agency is currently recruiting a new communications specialist to support both immediate and long-term growth.
When Denise Scatena began her career over 25 years ago, she was tasked with learning and doing “it all” for the organizations and clients she worked with. She gained experience in PR, marketing, and communications across various industries, including tech, hospitality, the arts, and nonprofits. As CEO of Scatena Media Group, she oversees all agency operations, spearheads business development, and leads integrated communications for client campaigns.
She’s won numerous accolades from her peers, including the highest honors from PRSA San Diego/Imperial Counties chapter – the Deb Baker PR Professional of the Year and the Eva Irving Community Service Awards. Scatena was honored among the San Diego Business Journal’s SD 500 in 2025. She serves on the board of the American Fundraising Professionals San Diego Chapter and will join the board of the San Diego Rotary Club (Club 33) in July 2026. She is a member of the San Diego Press Club, San Diego Association of Black Journalists, and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists San Diego-Tijuana. Scatena is a third-generation San Diegan and received her undergraduate degree from Chapman University and her master’s degree from San Diego State University.
“Now serving as the sole owner of Scatena Media Group, I took the last nine months to reimagine how to continue to provide communications and marketing leadership to our current clients and the community at large,” said Scatena. “They want communications to feel cohesive and intentional, achieving increased, high-quality visibility, and for their internal teams to feel supported and empowered. It was important for us to adapt to what they are looking for.”
New Brand Signals a Bright Future
The new brand identity, created by Bryan Winke of Winke Design in collaboration with Denise Scatena, was inspired by the diversity of California’s ecosystem. Across the Golden State, there are many stories to tell, as varied as the landscapes of the place the third-generation San Diegan is proud to call home. The treatment is rooted in history, yet modern. The agency’s tagline, “Where Strategy Meets Story,” underscores how Scatena Media Group amplifies its clients’ work to reach the communities they serve.
So what does the future hold for Scatena Media Group?
Scatena says, “This rebrand is just the beginning. Our future is rooted in innovation, intentionality, and integrated strategy. We are committed to expanding our capabilities, particularly in digital media and fractional C-suite services, to ensure our clients adapt and thrive in challenging economic environments, and in ever-evolving communications landscapes across sectors and departments within their own organizations.”
