Via Press Release –SAN DIEGO (November 4, 2013) – The International House of Blues Foundation (IHOBF) has awarded Perry Elementary School a $2,500 grant in support of their 5th grade drumming program as of the 2013 Action for the Arts Grants. The school will receive their new instruments on Monday, November 4.
“IHOBF is dedicated to helping students bring their music to life through programs like our Action for the Arts Grants,” said IHOBF Executive Director Marjorie Gilberg. “By supporting programs like those at Perry Elementary School, we’re able to provide resources to meet needs that would otherwise go unfunded.”
Several House of Blues San Diego team members and IHOBF staff will deliver the award to students on Monday. More than 90 percent of Perry Elementary School students come from active duty military families.
“Many of the students have parents who are currently deployed, and as a school we help develop their sense of community and learning by enriching their minds and abilities by opening up new instrumental avenues,” said instructor Rachel Wohnhaas.
IHOBF’s 2013 Action for the Arts Grants Program awarded $225,000 to schools and organizations reaching underserved youth in communities nationwide.
