EarthSeed Rising Arts Collective Presents:
“We Are the Art: Dandyism in America and the African Diaspora”
A Red Carpet Celebration of Style, Storytelling, and Cultural Power

TUCSON, AZ — February 13, 2026 — What if getting dressed was more than fashion? What if it was resistance, pride, imagination—and art?
EarthSeed Rising Arts Collective invites the community to experience “We Are the Art: Dandyism in America and the African Diaspora,” an immersive evening celebrating Black Dandyism as a bold expression of identity, elegance, creativity, and cultural self-definition. The event takes place Friday, February 13, 2026, from 5:00 to 8:30 PM at the historic Dunbar Pavilion (325 W. 2nd Street, Tucson, AZ 85705). Admission is free, and donations are encouraged.
What Is Dandyism?
Dandyism is often associated with sharp suits, polished shoes, tailored silhouettes, and undeniable presence—but it is much deeper than style alone. For Black communities across America and the African Diaspora, Dandyism has long been a way to reclaim dignity and visibility in societies that tried to deny both.
From 19th-century freedom seekers who dressed with intention to assert their humanity, to the Harlem Renaissance’s refined cultural revolutionaries, to the vibrant Congolese movement La SAPE (Société des Ambianceurs et des Personnes Élégantes)—where fashion becomes a joyful declaration of self-worth—Black Dandyism transforms clothing into language. It says: I define myself.

Dandyism is resistance through refinement. It is storytelling through fabric. It is imagination worn boldly in public.
An Evening Where You Are the Exhibition
Guests are encouraged to walk the red carpet and “dress to impress,” embodying their own interpretation of Black Dandy elegance. Whether classic, avant-garde, vintage, Afro-futurist, or inspired by La SAPE’s vibrant flair, the invitation is simple: show up as art.
The evening will feature:
- Original artwork by EarthSeed Rising Arts Collective artists (available for purchase)
- Cultural artifacts celebrating diasporic style and history
- A musical selection from the Siloam Choir
- A special preview honoring the Buffalo Soldiers, presented in uniform to commemorate their legacy, courage, and historical impact
Together, these elements create a living, breathing cultural experience—where history meets contemporary imagination.
“We Are the Art”
The theme of the evening reflects EarthSeed Rising’s belief that art is not separate from us. We carry it in how we dress, how we gather, how we remember, and how we dream. By honoring ancestral wisdom while nurturing present-day creativity, the collective continues its mission of transforming spaces—especially those where we were once excluded—into places of belonging, beauty, and celebration.
