Born on June 29, 1921, Nobles Banks-Reed chronicles her life growing up in Tucson, Arizona, a place where her parents escaped to from the deep south, Louisiana and Mississippi, only to find that African Americans (Negroes) and Mexicans (Mexican Americans) were segregated to live in certain parts of the desert town, called Barrio’s.
