Captain America Star Anthony Mackie Receives NOLA Key to the City


New Orleans, LA – February 10, 2025  New Orleans native and Hollywood star Anthony Mackie returned to his roots on Saturday to celebrate the release of his highly anticipated film, “Captain America: Brave New World.” A special community event, held at Warren Easton Charter High School, consisting of fans, students, and local dignitaries, all eager to catch a glimpse of the actor in his latest role as Captain America.

The day was filled with celebrations and honors as Mackie was warmly welcomed with a Hall of Fame plaque from school officials, acknowledging his significant achievements and ongoing connection to the community. Terry Davis, the Director of Communications, presented the Key to the City to Anthony Mackie on behalf of the Mayor of New Orleans, creating a memorable highlight of the event. The occasion was highlighted by touching speeches and a vibrant flag football game between St. Augustine High School and Warren Easton Charter High School, showcasing the community’s spirit and unity

Mackie’s involvement did not stop at receiving accolades; he actively engaged with attendees, participated in photo sessions with students and faculty, and supported the unveiling of a new mural by local artist Kara Crowley, which added a cultural dimension to the festive day.


During his speech, Mackie emphasized the importance of community and belonging. “Being Captain America is not important if you don’t have a place you can call home. And it means a lot,” said Mackie, underscoring what New Orleans means to him.
